Prep
- Standard prep with 10% provodone iodine
Drape
- Prepare the head and neck separately
- The patient should be supine. A small roll may be used under the ipsilateral hip, but is not required.
- Prepare the operative leg to include the anterior superior iliac spine and the patella - one must be able to visualize ASIS to patella
- Towels (stapled) to expose the anterolateral thigh, as far laterally as possible
- Split sheet
- Some attendings prefer an endotracheal tube which is prepped and sutured to the midline in the field prior to tracheotomy
